'Miss Canada' is a hybrid lilac from the Preston breeding program which originated in Ottawa. It is a very hardy, sweetly scented variety with brilliant rosy pink blooms that emerge from violet pink flower buds. It has glossy pink foliage and it does not sucker. Preston hybrids bloom  in dense clusters 2-3 weeks later than common lilacs.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Lilacs are generally very easy care shrubs. Plant them in full sun in moist, well drained soil. Lilacs do not like wet sites especially in the winter. 'Miss Canada' grows about 6 - 10 inches a year into a compact shape, but it is possible to prune it if needed. Prune immediately after to bloom to correct crossed branches or remove any broken limbs. Lilacs bloom on last year's wood. If you prune too early or too late, you'll lose the flowers for next spring. If you prune right after flowering and before seeds are formed it will produce abundant flowers the next year.
