Winterberry

Winterberry holly is a fabulous plant for winter interest in the garden with long lasting bright red berries. However our native variety is too large for most gardens. 'Berry Poppins' has all the beauty of the native but can be planted in a much smaller garden.  This deciduous holly loses its leaves every autumn but makes up for it with a heavy berry display that truly shines in the winter landscape. A male pollinator is required in order to set fruit; use Mr. Poppins® winterberry holly. Native to North America.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Winterberries naturally grow in, and therefore prefer, wet acidic soil, but they can handle the well-drained soil found in most gardens. They grow well in either full sun or partial shade. Pruning should be done immediately after blooming. Plant one 'Mr Poppins' holly for up to 'Berry Poppins' hollies. The plants can be up to 15 meters apart.
