Smooth Hydrangea

'Haas’ Halo' was selected from a batch of seedlings for its strong, sturdy, erect stems, deep bluish-green, glossy foliage, and huge white lace-cap flowers. Each bloom is up to 35 cms in diameter. 'Haas Halo' is one smooth hydrangea that will not wilt on the first dry day of summer. It can handle massive droughts and a long, hot summer full of heat and humidity. It is beautiful planted as a specimen and just as lovely en masse along a woodland edge. This fantastic, strong new selection would prefer morning sun, but if it’s got enough water, it can handle anything you give it. Bring on the heat for this native beauty.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

'Haas Halo' grows well in most soils in morning sun. It can handle full sun with adequate moisture.  Avoid wet and poorly drained sites. Mulch is recommended to retain moisture.  Cut back by about one-third its total height in early spring, just as the new growth begins to emerge on the stems. Smooth hydrangeas may be cut back harder, however, this prevents woody cells from developing, prohibiting the plant from achieving its maximum stem strength.
This Hydrangea has many landscape applications. Use it in foundation plantings, perennial gardens, hedges, cut flower gardens, naturalizing, pollinator and wildlife gardens.
