Summer Garden Phlox

From renowned Dutch landscape designer Piet Oudolf comes Phlox paniculata 'Blue Paradise’.  This phlox produces a beautiful display of strongly fragrant, violet-blue flowers with lavender centers. The flowers are also interesting because they appear to change colour throughout the day. During the middle of the day, the flowers appear purple, but look bluer during the early morning and evening. This perceived change in flower color is most likely due to the natural changes in sunlight throughout the span of a day, rather than changes in the actual flower itself. It attracts butterflies and hummingbirds and the spicy vanilla-clove perfume will perfume the garden.

Growing and Maintenance Tips

Phlox needs rich, well drained soil that does not dry out to look its best. It is a heavy feeder so a fall mulch with compost is beneficial to keep up the organic level in the soil. The varieties we sell have mildew resistant but do not overcrowd this plant. It needs good air circulation.
