Tall Garden Phlox are a workhorse in the midsummer sun garden. The Opening Act series will extend the phlox season at either end by starting to bloom in early summer and then, with dead heading, reblooming again later in the summer. The dark green, glossy foliage is mildew and disease resistant, an improvement on older varieties of Phlox that don’t hold up as well in the heat and humidity of summer. Joining the popular Opening Act series is a new colour pattern that is sure to brighten up your garden. 'Opening Act Pink-a-Dot' has near white flowers with a dark pink, central star pattern. The overall look of the flowers is light pink. If you sheer the spent flowers back, you can expect some rebloom into early fall.
Phlox needs rich, well drained soil that does not dry out to look its best. It is a heavy feeder so a fall mulch with compost is beneficial to keep up the organic level in the soil. The varieties we sell have mildew resistant but do not overcrowd this plant. It needs good air circulation. With a stoloniferous growth habit, this Phlox will spread slowly over the years.
