'Mariachi Salsa’ is a great example of the breeding improvements Helenium has recently undergone. It is part of the Mariachi series bred by Arie Blom of AB-cultivars in the Netherlands. This plant has a compact growing habit and produces spicy, deep red flowers with dark chocolate buttons in the mid to late summer. The plants do not fall over, have good disease resistance and are very floriferous. This is a great choice for brightening the summer perennial border. It can be utilized as an accent plant, in mass plantings, in containers or as cut flowers. If you haven’t grown Helenium in recent years, give ‘Mariachi Salsa’ a try.

Growing and Maintenance Tips
Native to the edges of woods, low meadows, and moist prairies, Helenium will thrive in any average to rich, moist, well-drained soil and full sun. Dry soil will result in unsightly plants. Pinch plants back by half in late spring to encourage a more sturdy, compact habit. Deadhead to promote rebloom.
