Eryngium planum 'Blue Glitter' has small shimmering blue blossoms on silvery stems. It is an excellent cut flower as well as a perennial specimen. Situate it close to the front of the border because it is short when not in bloom. When in bloom the flower scapes are 24-30" tall. 'Blue Glitter' is very attractive to butterflies and bees and is excellent for cutting.
Eryngium thrives in hot, dry sunny sites in soil that is well drained. It tolerates poor soil. The plants will flop over in flower if they are grown in soil that is very rich or if they are watered too much. This is a tap rooted plant that resents disturbance and is best left to colonize on its own rather than attempting to divide it. It is tolerant of salt.
