Epimedium 'Amber Queen' has beautiful, large spider-like yellow flowers that turn orange as they mature. The flowers are held on long arching spikes. The green foliage has bronzy tones to the foliage in the spring. This Epimedium seems to be a little more tender than some of the other varieties and needs ideal conditions in our area to do well.
Epimediums are easy to grow in good, well drained soil in part to full shade. They will flower better in part shade. They prefer soil with plenty of organic matter and even moisture. Once established Epimediums will tolerate more dryness. They will also tolerate competition from tree roots and are an excellent choice for dry shade. The plants are semi-evergreen to evergreen. In the spring cut the foliage to the ground if it has been damaged during the winter.
