No other Echinacea attracted as much attention in the test garden as 'Pow Wow Wild Berry'. It is a blooming machine producing masses of deep rose purple blooms from late spring until frost. It forms a strongly upright clump with sturdy well branched stems that do not need staking. Each large flower features downward facing rose purple rays with a large orange brown center cone. It is a great cut flower and an important nectar plant for butterflies.
Coneflowers are the ideal perennial for hot sunny sites. Plant them in shade and they will flop and produce very few flowers. Loamy, well drained soil is ideal to produce the best bloom and winter hardiness. Heavy soils can lead to winter rot. Leave the seed heads to stand for winter food for finches and other birds.
