Athyrium 'Crested Surf' is the first perennial fern in the Proven Winners lineup. 'Crested Surf' looks similar in colour to a traditional Japanese Painted Fern, but the tips of the fronds are double crested. It is a vigorous, taller variety that can fit the middle of the border. 'Crested Surf' is the perfect companion for blue or green hostas preferring a moist, shady area of the garden.

Growing and Maintenance Tips
Athyrium grows best in moist soil with a neutral to moderately acidic pH. Partial to full shade is best. To protect the crowns and tender shoots in the spring, it is best to leave the old fronds and fallen leaves on the plant over the winter. They can be removed in the spring when the new fronds reach 6 inches tall. If division is necessary, do so in the spring.
