'Key West ' is a dwarf astilbe producing maroon buds on reddish stems that open up to showy, feathery, raspberry red flower plumes. The plumes age to a soft pink, on rich, colour-changing foliage that emerges red and matures to bronze-green with red margins.
To grow Astilbes well pay attention to their need for water. Do not let the soil dry out because the leaves will go crispy and drop off. Rich soil in partial shade is the best situation. In sun it will be hard to keep them moist enough and, in too much shade, they will not bloom well. Leave old foliage on until the spring to protect the crowns of the plants.
