Allium 'Millenium' is one of those perfect perennials that belongs in every garden. It forms a compact, upright clump of glossy green, thick and strappy leaves. In mid summer in our garden it produces a profusion of large, bright rosy purple, tightly rounded clusters of flowers on strong stems that are held just above the attractive foliage. Butterflies and honeybees are attracted to the sweet nectar but deer and rabbits steer clear of it. This plant has been outstanding in our zone 4 garden for the past four years.
Allium 'Millenium' is the perfect choice for a low maintenance, reliable perennial that will attract pollinators. It is easy to grow in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. It performs best in full sun but will tolerate some light afternoon shade. 'Millenium' tolerates a wide range of soils including sandy soils but will not grow well in heavy clay. Although ‘Millenium’ is a true bulb on a stout rhizome, it forms a clump which can be lifted and divided in either spring or fall. This hybrid has been extremely well behaved in our garden, slowly spreading to make an attractive clump with no seeding around.
