About This Grass
Panicum virgatum 'Northwind' is a dark green upright rigid clumping selection with a unique growing habit. The unique flower stalks look like an arranged bouquet placed in the center of the clump of foliage. Most of the seed heads are situated in the middle of the clump, rather than arching away from it like most other grasses. 'Northwind' blooms in late summer and is a fast grower. In the fall the foliage turns golden yellow. It is a great addition to a grass border but also works well in mixed plantings, wild gardens or naturalized areas.

Growing and Maintenance Tips
Panicum is a very easy native grass that is adaptable to a wide range of conditions. It prefers moist, fertile soil but will grow in any soil from sand to clay. It is drought tolerant once established. It will perform best in full sun, flopping over if it gets too much shade. It is tolerant of wind and salt making it a good choice for a more exposed site or an area that might be salted in the winter.
