Molinia 'Skyracer' is a standout in our display garden with its lovely open spikes of flowers which flutter in the wind. It needs to be planted where it can be viewed from all sides or against a dark backdrop. Despite its height it disappears when planted toward the back of a border because the height is all in the very fine flower heads. The Moor Grasses are all clumping in habit with the delicate flowers held well above the foliage. In the fall the foliage of most varieties, including 'Sky Racer' turns bright golden yellow.
Molinia grows best in moist, fertile acidic soil. It needs ample water and some shade in hot and dry sites. It can be cut down in the fall or spring. Our clump has become massive over time and is difficult to move once established.
